I met Henning Christoph over twenty years ago. It was from him that I learned much of what I know today about the traditional religion of West and Central Africa. From the very beginning, he shared his knowledge with me, as well as the many stories with which he continues to captivate friends and visitors of the Soul of Africa Museum to this day. We met countless times over the years, and the hours we spent together always flew by. I often thought that the beautiful stories needed to be documented. No previous publication has been dedicated to them or taken them into account.

This book changes all that. It is based on conversations that took place in 2023, 2024, and 2025. From the outset, the intention was not to produce a sterile interview transcript that ticked off individual topics one by one, but rather a long night around the campfire. Much of our personal lives has found its way into the following pages. Thematically sometimes chronological, sometimes playful and erratic, these recordings are the documentation of a lively exchange.
